RIVER SANDBAR IN JUPITER, FLORIDA Pictures Of People Enjoying The Sandbar In Jupiter-Tequesta
ENJOYING THE LOXAHATCHEE RIVER SANDBAR
Bring chairs, food, drinks and your favorite outdoor
toys. The Loxahatchee River Sandbar is a great place to cookout,
play football or Frisbee, sunbathe, kayak or canoe, snorkel, swim or
just hang out.
Note:
This page contains several high resolution, large size
photographs. As such this these pictures may take extra
time to download, especially with a dial-up internet connection.
You can set up chairs on the sandbar. When there is water
on the sand bar, a small plastic folding table is useful to
place between the chairs (to hold drinks.) Place your ice chest
in an inner tube and tether the inner tube to your chairs. During
low tide a large area of sand is completely exposed.
Kids love to run and play on the sandbar. This picture was taken
about 2 hours before low tide. Note how the sandbar is
still covered in about a foot of water.
Picture of sights around the Loxahatchee Sandbar. Note the
mangrove island to the far right side of the photo. This
mangrove island marks the sandbar's extreme east end. There is some good snorkeling
in this area. Snorkel near the mangrove island to see a variety
of sea life. The most sea life can be found here during the
summer months.
Snorkeling should
be done at high tide when water visibility increases as clear
ocean water comes in the nearby Jupiter Inlet.
Picture of kids enjoying the sandbar's west end.
The
sandbar area is undeveloped. There are no nearby restrooms,
picnic facilities, water fountains or restrooms. The closest
public restrooms are about a mile east at Jupiter Seasport Marina
(off the Intercoastal Waterway north of the bridges) or at Burt
Reynolds Park.
This photo was taken at the extreme western end of the
Loxahatchee Sandbar, looking to the west. The photo shows the
boating
channel as it progresses west up the Loxahatchee River.
If
you continue to cruise up the Loxahatchee River from the sand bar area,
consult a chart and seek out a local knowledge.
The channel is
not well marked and can be deceptive. Shallow water
and
shifting bottom sand are abundant. It's helpful to follow
a
local boater up the channel.
There are some nice places to water ski and jet ski
further up the Loxahatchee River. Even further up the river is
Jonathan Dickinson State Park.
To the east of the Loxahatchee Sandbar is another popular local
boating destination, the Jupiter Rope Swings. Click

WARNING
Information on this web
site is NOT navigational purposes. Water on the
Loxahatchee River in Jupiter is dangerously shallow, especially
at low tide
when the sandbar is exposed. Sand is constantly shifting
below
the water's surface. Always review a current nautical chart
before attempting to boat in this area. It is also helpful to
obtain
current "local knowledge" from other boaters. Boats with deep
drafts or boats larger than 28 feet should NOT attempt to
operate on the
Loxahatchee River.
